You've had the same fight so many times you've stopped expecting it to end differently.
Cala Counselling is a couples therapy and relationship counselling practice in Vancouver, BC. We offer warm, rigorous, and deeply human therapy — for partners who feel stuck, and for individuals ready to understand why.
You might recognize this.
One of you reaches out and the other pulls back. You argue about the dishes but you both know it’s not really about the dishes. You have grown quieter around each other, more careful, and you miss the version of this relationship that used to feel easy. Or something happened, maybe a betrayal, a loss, a long accumulation of unmet needs, and you are not sure if what is broken can be repaired. Maybe the distance is mostly physical now, and neither of you knows how to talk about it.
These are the things people bring to our practice: we know relationships are genuinely hard, and most of us were never taught how to do this well.
What we believe about this work.
We don’t think the goal is to stop fighting or to feel happy all the time. The goal is to understand what is actually happening between you — the emotional cycle underneath the conflict, the attachment needs that are not getting met, the parts of each person that are protecting something tender — and to find a more honest, connected way to be together. That kind of change is slow and sometimes uncomfortable. It is also real, and it lasts.
Therapy at Cala Counselling is warm and collaborative, and there is always room for humour. But it is also rigorous. We pay close attention to the body, to emotion, to what gets left unsaid. We work at the pace the relationship actually needs, not the pace that feels most efficient.
